Charity Gamers first started with a local Lan tournament I (KSI Freedom 6 , Ryan Hemhauser) ran in Toms River, NJ at The Game Lounge http://www.thegameloungenj.com/index.html . It was right around the same date my mother passed away from lung cancer a few years before. I wanted to do something great that I could dedicate to her. So I decided Halo 3, “it would be a brand new game coming out plus it was my favorite game and I would own it” ~ KSI Freedom 6. To help promote the tournament I reached out to a number of different sources. First I contacted all of the local school’s to hang up flyers to promote the event. Next I reached out to a local radio station (g Rock 106.5) to announce my tournament. I then reached out to the largest online gaming community KSI; they immediately helped out by putting up a number of different articles on there websites about the event. Finally as a long shot I emailed Bungie to see if they would help and you wouldn’t believe it I got front page news. This helped the tournament GREATLY we had over 300 pre-registrations http://www.bungie.net/News/content.aspx?cid=12909 .
The day of the tournament we had over 130 gamers and we raised over 1600 dollars for the American Cancer Society.
